Recently, I had the opportunity to visit one of American's newly renovated Admiral's Clubs. This was not originally part of my plan for this past weekend's itinerary but, upon arrival, I realized that three and a half hours is a long time to spend in the gate area of Phoenix-Harbor. So, I made my way to the nearest Admiral's Club located between gates A7 and A9.
I was pleasantly surprised when I realized that this particular club was one of the first clubs to have been renovated as part of a multi-million dollar "passenger experience" program. Overall, the staff was fantastic, the food was great, and the new design takes home the gold.
The new Admiral's Clubs feature a few added amenities that include added dining options, new power ports with USB outlets, redesigned restrooms and showers, just to name a few. Compared to my recent experience at the Admiral's Club in San Francisco and the club in Phoenix's concourse B, the newly redesigned clubs are a major improvement.
Amenities at this particular location include;
How can you access the club?
The New Design
,From the second you finish climbing the flight of stairs to the mezzanine level, you'll notice the stunning new modern entryway to the club. Outside the club you will see the new American Airlines logo, Oneworld logo, and a monitor explaining amenities, hours, and access. Upon entry, new podiums with wood trim, red lounge chairs, a bright atrium, and a new departure board make-up the check-in area. Just beyond the check-in area you will notice a new luggage storage rack, brightly lit business center, magazine rack, and the new spacious and private seating.
Not five minutes into my visit, I had to remind myself I was in an Admiral's Club and not a Centurion Lounge or the Virgin Atlantic Clubhouse. American has really created something amazing with the new modern interiors with a functional layout and wood trimmings throughout the club. New seating options allow for private cubical type seating as well as seating that would appeal to those travelling with a companion. Outlets, both AC, and USB, are featured at each seat throughout the lounge.
Near the bar, a new communal bar area with power outlets allows you to keep your devices charged while also allowing for speedy service. Also near the bar are three tables that allow for companions to dine in a more traditional, restaurant-like atmosphere.
The snack and beverage set-up also got a facelift. American has begun to install new Coca-Cola Freestyle machines in its clubs featuring hundreds of soft drink options. New coffee machines with additional coffee beverages are also featured in new clubs. American redesigned the tapas/snack bar and added additional snack and soup options.
The modern feel of the newly designed lounge really reflects the New American brand. It's a great twist on American's Admirals Clubs. They are designed with functionality, comfort, and the modern traveler in mind.
Dining And Service
The service was phenomenal. From the moment I entered till the time I exited, I encountered only smiling and warm faces. Everyone was attentive and ready to help. The entire staff was very professional. I couldn't have asked for a better group of people to be working for those few hours I spent at the club.
As for the food, the free snacks were what you'd expect. There were some snack mixes, chips, hummus, veggies, fresh fruit, and tapas style dishes. I purchased the Lobster Mac-N-Cheese which was absolutely amazing. It tasted fresh, the lobster tasted great, it was cheesy, and it filled me up. I also indulged in a few sweets. I definitely noticed a difference from my experiences at the San Francisco club and the Phoenix concourse B club and this club when it came to dining.
American did a great job with the remodeling at this particular club. The new modern design and enhanced dining really make the Admiral's Club feel more premium. The staff was friendly, professional, and attentive. The lounge was kept tidy and clean. If you plan on visiting an Admiral's Club while at Phoenix-Sky Harbor, make sure to visit the club located between A7 and A9. The walk between concourses is worth it.
